Thanksgiving Day 2017
Friends of Katie,
This picture is Kate with Zach, Callie, Meredith and niece Camden, as we celebrated Thanksgiving at Harborview with about 20 family members.
Kate was able to get in a big chair on wheels and roll into a little waiting room down the hall for a very meaningful Thanksgiving day.
Katie enjoyed being with family and continues to make progress on a daily basis. She is close to getting the feeding tube out of her nose as they are now testing to make sure she can pass the "swallowing test" as well as getting her blood sugars and insulin balanced out. Katie's night nurse for the past three nights is a gentleman named Jean Pierre. He continues to call her a very "clever girl" as she has now pulled out her nasal feeding tube twice and the nurses are getting a tad bit frustrated. It probably has more to do with her negligent parents.....not wanting to restrain Kate's hands.... It apparently is really bugging Kate!!!
Kate's big joy on Thanksgiving day was ice chips. She was allowed 5 ice chips per sitting and while the family was chowing down on turkey sandwiches and potatoes au gratin, Katie enjoyed her very precious ice chips.
As Kate continues to hear the story of the last 2 weeks, she is starting to get a bit emotional. She is realizing that a whole bunch of people in her life have been reaching out and praying for her. She feels bad that people have had to take time out of their busy lives and deal with her. Yesterday a nurse came in and asked Katie if she needed anything.... Kate quickly asked back... "do you need anything? We can order something online and get you whatever you need." Perhaps she is tired of being served so well these past two weeks and it is time for her to give back.
She is so very grateful for all that has been done for her. Each of you and all the staff at Harborview have served her so well. It was a very blessed Thanksgiving Day indeed!
Thanks for sending in the "Helmet Head" pictures. Each one brings a bright smile to her face!

Love you Katie!!💖💖💖
