Kate Update Monday 8:00 pm 12/18/17

Friends of Katie,

Well, it looks like we have hit the home stretch in regards to leaving the hospital.   Today it became increasingly clear that Friday will be Katie's discharge date.   If that is, in fact, the case, it will have been exactly 42 days since Katie first arrived at the Harborview Trauma Center on the early morning of November 11th.

Of course, that means that Katie will be home for Christmas.  It most certainly will be a very memorable Christmas for us all and we are thrilled.   We are grateful beyond words for what has increasingly become our Christmas miracle.

Katie's in-patient rehab will wind down this week, signaling the beginning of her outpatient therapy as soon as we can identify the best opportunity for her.  At this point, the plan is to have her stay at the family home in Tacoma with Mom and Dad.  This, of course, will be the ultimate dream scenario for Katie and any other 28 year old for that matter.

We anticipate that Katie will be at home in Tacoma through January and into February until she is able to have the section of her skull tucked back into her head.  We will be giving updates as the details become clearer and the ensuing rehab unfolds.

Today's news was good news.  Katie has been waiting.....  Her family and friends have been waiting.... and during this season of Advent, we all have been waiting for something good that brings families and communities together around the world during this season.   Our family joins with each of you in that waiting.   Thank you for waiting alongside Katie and her family.   As we all know the waiting can be the hardest part.

  1. So happy to hear that you'll be going home soon and just in time for Christmas. I only live 5 minutes away from your Tacoma home, so If you're ever up for a visit or wants someone to lounge around with, I'm here for you! If the hunter family needs any help, let me know. I pray your transition home goes smoothly!! Love you Katie.

  4. It’s seems as if Christmas wishes do come true or is it Santa knows who’s been a good girl this year. The best present ever and we don’t even have to open it; it comes in a helmet and gown.
